Ethnographic Mueseum of Lezha

Culture and historical heritage

The Ethnographic Museum of Lezha represents an institution of special value in the framework of the material and spiritual cultural heritage of the region, offering a clear and scientifically formulated overview of the traditional life of local communities.
This institution plays an essential role in documenting, preserving and interpreting the elements of popular culture, which constitute an integral part of the historical and ethnographic identity of the Lezha area and beyond.
After a long period of functional absence of about three decades, the museum was reinstated on October 23, 2019, exhibiting 315 museum objects which are part of a wider fund of 841 objects.
The museum collection is characterized by a rich typological and functional variety, including different categories of objects that are closely related to the traditional way of life.
In particular, folk clothing occupies a central place in this fund, representing various ethnographic areas such as Zadrima, Mirdita, Kallmeti, Pllana, Malësia e Madhe and the city of Lezha itself. These garments stand out for the high quality of work, the use of precious materials such as gold and silver threads and for the rich ornamentation that reflects not only traditional aesthetics, but also the social status and provincial affiliation of their bearers.
In addition to clothing, the museum fund also includes craft weapons that testify to the long tradition of metalworking craftsmanship in the area; traditional musical instruments directly related to the practice of folk music; as well as a wide range of other objects including agricultural tools, kitchen utensils, work tools and daily use that unfold a complete overview of the household economy and productive activities of the rural and urban community.
