Clock Tower

Clock Tower

Culture and historical heritage

The object is located in the core of the "Great Bazaar", exactly at the place called "Clock Field" and was built in 1597 immediately after the construction of the Hadum Mosque.
The Clock Tower resisted until 1912 when it was burned during the Balkan wars, while the clock mechanism was looted and sent to Montenegro.
The building was rebuilt on the 100th anniversary of its destruction near the existing foundations, based on archival photo-materials in Gjakova. The object has a height of 30 meters that rises above a base measuring 4.10 x 4.10 m.
The foundations of the old building were built of stone, the walls up to the observation level were made of stone and baked brick combination, while the part above the observation level was built of wood and covered with lead.
The new building is built with bricks and concrete, while on the facade from the western side are placed the original stones with inscriptions from the old building, while the roof is covered with lead.
