The historical complex of the Hadum Mosque is located in the core of the Grand Bazaar. The complex was built in 1585. The builder of the mosque was Efendi Hadum Aga. This object served as a mosque, while in its complex there is also a school that performed religious studies.
The mosque complex consists of the mosque, minaret, the school, ablution hall, old cemetery and library which is one of the oldest libraries in Kosovo.
The mosque, minaret and library are built of carved stone. The cover of the mosque and the minaret are made of lead, while the cover of the library and mejtepi are made of traditional tiles.
The Hadum Mosque as an architectural construction belongs to the classical forms of mosques of the Kosovar style group. The mosque is covered with domes, has a rectangular base and a minaret that emerges from the southwest wall. Its layout and compositional scheme consists of the prayer hall, the hall that located in the northwest facade of the mosque and the minaret.
In the mosque of Hadum in Gjakovë, as well as in some other works of the same character and type in Kosovo that were built in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, there are paintings and decorations which enriched the walls of Islamic sacral objects -Albanian.
The dominant colors in these decorations are red, blue, green, okra, gray and black. The decorations belong to the Islamic-Albanian Baroque style, made in the 19th century.
There are three pictorial layers in the Hadum mosque. The first two layers must belong to the XVII-XVIII century. The third decorative layer, the existing one, was realized in 1842.
